As blogging has evolved at a greater pace than expected over the years that it has turned in to a full time profession for many, though there are increasing number of pro bloggers emerging on a consistent basis, its an undeniable fact that huge number of people do not succeed with Blogging particularly when their Goal is to make their living out of it. Its no doubt that blogging has the real potential to substitute your full time job but from what I have noticed there are some common mistakes most start up bloggers do which ultimately leads them to frustration over their blogs.
1. Choosing A Wrong Topic Or Niche
You need to be very choosy with what topic you choose to blog about and there are plenty of reasons why it should be so. Different niche sites have different take off times, which mainly depends on the level of competition you got on the particular niche, secondly unless you have some level of interest on the topic you choose you are going to feel some level of stress and burden every time you want to update your blog, this might create content shortage in your blog as your frequency of updates is bound to reduce over time and eventually leading to an isolated and dead blog.
2. Running Too Many Parallel Blogs
Its always a good idea to start with one blog at a time instead of running too many parallel blogs, when you run a single blog you can spend quality time on the blog and on the topic to create quality articles instead of rushing up your contents on different blogs on different topics which can create a lot of strain and energy drain in you and also its good to keep in mind that this approach will take you a very long time to yield you any substantial results and most people do not succeed with it.
3. Giving More Focus on SEO and Less Focus On Contents
Have no doubt on the fact that contents should be your primary priority when it comes to blogging, instead many start up bloggers create 10 to 15 articles on a blog and keep focusing on link building and spamming links on forums, blogs, comments and what not.. this kind of practices rather yield you negative impact from search engines and sometimes leads to your blog being penalized, always make sure to keep your blog substantial with quality articles which attracts natural links. Also from my experience Google gives more weight to blogs with contents over blogs with most links pointing to it.
4. Not Monetizing The Blog Properly
Honestly when Google approved my adsense account, I just went crazy and loaded up my blogs with ads in positions which hardly gets people’s attention leading to low conversion rates. This is the common mistake by many even today, people keep using ad units which converts poorly and place the ads in positions which never gets the reader’s attention. Point I want to make it do make sure you gather sufficient knowledge on what are the ways you can effectively monetize your blog and implement it in place, also do not expect anything big until your traffic starts to build up over a period of time.
5. Learn Basic Onpage SEO
Though spending too much time outside your site on SEO could hurt the over all output of your blog, but learning basic on page SEO can be of more help, like using the terms which people search for in your titles, avoiding duplicate contents within the blog, improving your internal linking which can spread more link juice within your blog, using a more search engine friendly theme etc.. will be of great help to make your pages rank high in search engines in a short period of time.
